Brussels

Brussels - The Trade show

This was a good show but at the end of the day I did not have time to do the BLOG.

We arrived on Monday the 23rd into Amsterdam at 7:30 and had to hang around until 11 or so. In the last 30 minutes we discovered that we could have been sitting in comfort in the Hispeed lounge. Ah well such is life. The train took about 1.5hrs and was super comfortable, good leg room, drinks supplied. The dutch countryside flashed by and almost before we knew it we were in Brussels Midi station a few minutes from the Welcome hotel, our home for the next 4 days.

As soon as we were settled, we walked over to Le Grand Place, the centre of old Brussels where we sat in the sunshine, had a glass of Chimay Bleu and marvelled once again at the buildings which start with the old palace and the town hall built around the beginning of the 15th century to the old guild hall buildings built between 1400 and 1690 when they were destroyed by Louis XIV of France in one of his wars. These buildings were rebuilt in the original style around 1698 and ornamented with gold.

Recently restored (it was covered when we were here 2 years ago)

This ICON was in the old church of St Nikolai. It is a picture of himself
