Our first morning got off to a slow start. I went out to shop for breakfast and washing powder, and got both more or less. Labels were a problem and while I could identify things in clear packages, the washing powder was a little bit of a problem. No real problem however.
With the need to do a wash and the cycle being long (washing machine was also the dryer) we did not get out until 2. The Duomo was the first stop (and the only one for today as it turned out). We avoided the queue for the dome tour and went in the front door.
Around the corner and it looms over us |
Looking towards the Nave. It is huge! |
General for the Medici, Nicolo da Tolentino |
Another successful Medici general, John Hawkwood an Englishman who waged war successfully for the Medici |
Looking back towards the front doors. The clock is a) unusual because it shows 24 hours starting at the bottom and b) it was the largest monumental clock in Europe and dated from around 1300ad |
One of the many inlaid floor patterns in the Duomo. All were different |
Looking towards the alter, under the dome |
The inside of the dome |

One of the 8 stained glass windows. 4 were blanked on the outside so you could not see the images |
The Duomo from the cafe on the otherside of the street |
The sun came out as we were leaving |

Lovely pics! Would love to visit someday - enjoy the rest of your trip!
